Day 2 Estes Park to Granby

We begin the climb up and out of Estes Park early. At about 5 miles we enter Rocky Mountain National Park. We are through the entrance before the cashier opens at 7 am so its a freebie.
Below is a view point we stop at that details the problem with Pine Beetles. From this vantage point, there are thousands of pines left dead and dying from the infestation. I took a picture of the placard but its unreadable here. This pest is the same varmint that has been destroying Eastern Oregons pines as well.

Off in the distance is the road on the valley floor.

A SAG stop along the way/fixing a broken frame

Leo, Beth and I resting on the climb. Lots of switchbacks. I ran out of legs and lungs at 11,400 ft and rode to the top. Then it was down off the mountain to Granby, elevation 7900 ft.
